Last fall, I completed my computer science degree in Trier and moved to Cologne. I love to learn new things and constantly try to think outside the box. During my studies I fell in love with a few things:
Rails
For a practical project I developed a web application for managing bookmarks, similar to (the old) delicious.com. I've used this project to learn a lot about the concepts behind Rails and non-relational databases, especially CouchDB. It was such a great pleasure to work with both of them.
Further I used Rails and CouchDB to develop my blog. I also worked on some smaller applications with Rails and relational databases.
I love to develop web applications!
Usability
In my bachelor thesis I've done a study on the usability of the e-learning platform Stud.IP. Through intensive observing and understanding of user interactions I got a deeper insight of what good usability is.
Beyond that a passion for usability, user interfaces and user interaction grew in me. I deeply care about how people are interacting with software, devices or the world. I really wanna know how these things work and especially: why they don't work.
Feel free to have a look at my thesis on github.
The Story So Far
After the end of my job training I worked as a System and Network Administrator for 8 years and gained a lot of experience with client and server operating systems (Windows and Linux) and IT infrastructures. In 2007 I started studying computer science at the University of Applied Sciences Trier, which I successfully completed in the fall of 2012 with a bachelor's degree.
For about 2 years I had a job as a research assistant at the university where I was involved in the development of a web application to gather data of medical studies. This web application was based on ASP.NET(C#) and MySQL. My key task there was the implementation of the front end with ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript and CSS(Less).
Why I Want To Work With You.
I like that you committed yourself to the (local) developer community and the local startup scene.
It's time for me to do the next step. I want to become better and more professional. My college days and the projects I already worked on provide a good base for this. But to become better I have to practice - preferably as much as possible.
I love to solve tricky problems.
I also love to work with creative people and think that railslove is a great and inspiring place to evolve, learn and get involved.
